The Best Pocket Square Folds


After purchasing your new pocket square, you're going to want to show it off in every jacket you own. 

But you can't just take a silk pocket square, stuff it in your pocket and head out.

There are certain folding rules that must be followed.

We've curated a list of the top 5 pocket square folds that every man should have in his arsenal of talents.

We've also broken it down into steps to make sure you become a master folder.

 

NAME: THE PUFF FOLD

USE: EVERY DAY

HOW TO DO IT: 

This fold is perfect for everyday use. You get the most bang for your buck, color-wise because a lot of the pocket square can be shown.

To start, lay the pocket square on a flat surface and make sure it’s unfolded.

Take your thumb and finger and pinch it in the center.

Pick it up and allow it to create folds naturally.

While you continue holding the center, use your other hand to gently gather the fabric together.

Fold all the edges and tuck the fabric into your jacket pocket.

Make sure the rounded top of the pocket square if puffed out.

Don’t expect it to be neat and tidy as the fold is supposed to have slight creases and small divots.

 

NAME: THE CROWN FOLD

USE: LESS CASUAL OCCASIONS

HOW TO DO IT: 

The crown fold is a sleekly finished fold that is perfect for a business meeting or a nice dinner out.

Take the pocket square and lay it down flat in a diamond shape.

Take the bottom corner and fold it up and over slightly to the left, creating two points at the top.

Then take the left corner of the triangle you’ve created and fold it diagonally to the right, creating a third point at the top.

Finally for the remaining right corner in and tuck the three point crown into your jacket pocket.

 

NAME: THE PRESIDENTIAL FOLD

USE: FORMAL OCCASIONS

HOW TO DO IT: 

The most formal of the folds, James Bond has always worn it well in a suit or a tux.

Lay your pocket square flat in a square shape.

Fold it in half to match it to the width of your jacket’s breast pocket

Take the bottom and fold it up to the top again creating a square.

When it’s in your pocket, it will look like a single horizontal line of fabric peeking out from the pocket.    

 

NAME: THE SINGLE POINT FOLD

USE: EVERY DAY USE

HOW TO DO IT: 

Lay the pocket square down flat in the shape of a diamond.

Take the bottom corner and bring it up to match the top corner so you have a triangle.

Fold the left corner in half way.

Fold the right corner in half way.

Fold the bottom edge up a bit so it's touching the bottom of the diamond shape you’ve just created within the pocket square fold.

Tuck the pocket square into your pocket.

 

NAME: THE TWO POINT FOLD

USE: CASUAL AND FORMAL OCCASIONS

HOW TO DO IT: 

A fun variation of the single point fold, this gives a bit more edge to your outfit and allows more of the pocket square to be seen.

Lay the pocket square flat in a diamond shape.

Fold the bottom point of the diamond up but slightly off-center to the top point.

This will create two peaks.

Fold the left corner inward about half way and then fold the right corner inward about half way. 

Next, fold the bottom up about half way to ensure the pocket square will fit in the breast pocket.
